Yunyan district, the core of the old urban area of Guiyang and the city's functional hub, has fully advanced the "one river, one path, one area" project in recent years, driving the transformation of urban renewal from fragmented renovation to systematic upgrading.
The project — where "one river" refers to the area along the Guancheng River, "one path" to the historic city wall trail of old Guiyang, and "one area" to the Wenchang Pavilion block — is a key cultural initiative that connects 68 cultural heritage sites, revitalizes 35 historical landmarks, and explores 12 items of intangible cultural heritage.
"We have conducted in-depth investigations into historical and cultural resources in the early stage," said Jiang Wenming, director of Yunan district bureau of housing and urban-rural construction. "We have established a historical and cultural resource database and a protection list for the old urban area, striving to preserve the original charm of old buildings and retain the unique warmth of the old city."
On the premise of maintaining the traditional urban layout and historical features, Yunyan has improved supporting living facilities, greatly enhancing residents' quality of daily life. As of now, the district has completed the renovation of more than 3,400 households in old residential communities, added 906 parking spaces, and built 19 pocket parks. Remarkable progress has been made in solving prominent problems such as parking shortages and pipe network aging.
Yunyan has adopted technological means to restore historical buildings and launched intelligent navigation services as well as artificial intelligence historical scene reproduction. The creative restoration of regional landmarks has not only breathed new vitality into urban architecture, but also allowed citizens to experience the profound heritage of history and the charm of technology.
Yunyan now boasts a completely renewed old urban landscape and a remarkable leap in urban quality. Signature projects such as Taiping Road and Xinyin 1950 Discovery have won wide acclaim from the public, emerging as a benchmark for urban renewal in Guiyang.
