Yunyan district makes a UN list

Yunyan district of Guiyang was included on the "Cities with Nature" platform since the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, which was announced at the 2025 Ocean Cooperation and Development Forum Ocean City Mayor Dialogue held on Sept 8 in Qingdao, Shandong province.

The "Cities with Nature" platform is an online interactive platform established under the framework of a partnership initiative jointly promoted by organizations such as the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the World Wildlife Fund for Nature, and United Nations Environment Programme. It is the world's largest platform for sharing knowledge and case studies on urban and local biodiversity conservation, providing rich guidelines, tools, and case studies to help cities re-examine their relationship with nature and achieve symbiosis and prosperity.

Yunyan district is the birthplace of the old city of Guiyang. Since the establishment of Guizhou province in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it has served as an important political, economic, cultural, technological, and educational hub in the province.

Thanks to the diverse landforms with mild climate, abundant rainfall, and rich species, the district's biodiversity is effectively protected, featuring secondary protected plants such as half maple lotus and rock red bean tree, as well as secondary protected wild animals such as macaques and common pheasants.

In recent years, Yunyan district has been working to restore its environment, improved the quality of its urban ecology, and promoted the coexistence of nature and human culture, allowing the public to share in the beauty of nature, culture, and life.
