The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has announced the second batch of typical cases for urban renewal, with the "Guizhou Xinhua Printing Factory Dilapidated Factory Renovation Project" and the "Taiping Road Revitalization Project" of Yunyan district in Guiyang selected. This marks the first time Guiyang or even Guizhou has been included in the national urban renewal list.
The Xinyin Factory and surrounding urban renewal project covers a vast area of 254,500 square meters and was completed in 2024. The project sits on the original Guizhou Xinhua Printing Factory site, which was established in 1950 and served as a major regional printing base.
This renovation aims to transform the old industrial site into a cultural and creative hub, preserving the city's history while invigorating the local area. It has honored the city's industrial legacy and stimulated economic growth, offering a replicable model for other cities in China.
The success of the Taiping Road Revitalization Project further highlights Yunyan's approach to blending cultural preservation, ecological protection, and urban quality improvement. Integrating local cultural elements such as the Guanyun River, old walls, streets, and alleys creates a unique tourism experience, transforming the once-worn district into a trendy commercial and nightlife hub and helping to build a distinctive cultural space in Guiyang.
