Yunyan district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has accelerated its efforts to promote the "old city core" initiative, with the "one river, one road, one area" project steadily progressing.
Daximen Gate Tower, a landmark at the entrance of Xingli Department Store in Daximen, is nearing completion. Once finished, it will revive Guiyang's historical "nine gates and four pavilions" landscape.

Daximen has a rich history dating back to 1382 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) when it was known as Shengquan Gate. As one of Guiyang's key gates, it played a crucial role in the city's military defenses and urban management.
During the Ming and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, the area surrounding Daximen, strategically located near the West River, became a hub for transportation, commerce, and social interaction.
The new landmark, part of Yunyan's Historic City Wall Trail (Phase I) project, features a modern design using gradient acrylic panels with built-in lighting, which creates a striking visual effect at night. Measuring 13 meters long, 1.2 meters wide, and 4.55 meters tall, it replicates the architectural style of the original gate tower and is set to be completed by Dec 25.
"This project aims to revive Guiyang's historical culture, blending it seamlessly with modern urban development," said Jin Canyu, the project leader.
