Long Cong, vice-mayor of Guiyang, announced the opening with the participation of local officials, sports industry leaders, and Olympic champion Zhang Shan.

The park was renovated from a disused factory in collaboration with the Shanhai Education Group and the Guizhou Daily Media Group, with a total investment of about 80 million yuan ($11.2 million).

It covers about 20,000 square meters and offers sports facilities and services, including artistic gymnastics, boxing, shooting, skiing, parkour, children's fitness, trampoline, badminton, basketball, painting and skateboarding. The park also includes sports dormitories, training programs, sports events planning, sports equipment, and catering services.

Cai Qingbin, chairman of Shanhai Education Group, said the sports park is an attempt to implement the national fitness strategy, promote the construction of the "15-minute life circle", and boost economic development by unlocking unused assets.

It is a comprehensive project that integrates health, culture, leisure, education, entertainment, catering, and an innovative model of "sports-themed commercial complex", Cai said.

The park aims to provide fitness facilities and services for local residents, promote sports-related consumption, empower economic development, and extend the coverage of "sports +" services.

Olympic champion Zhang Shan said that sports and fitness have become increasingly important in modern society, and the opening of the Shanhai City Sports Park offers more opportunities for local residents to exercise while also enhancing the accessibility of sports services and meeting the diverse needs of the public.

The new park will help to create a more positive urban image, promote urban renewal, and add vitality to the city, as well as stimulate urban consumption, said Zhang.
