The Beijing Fangcaodi International School Guiyang Branch School – located in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – held an activity on Nov 4 to promote environmental protection and garbage sorting.

During the activity, students used a data visualization education platform to learn about garbage sorting through various games, which also stimulated their knowledge of maths, Chinese and ways of thinking.

According to Yu Huijuan, deputy director of teaching and discipline of the school, through the activity, the students presented their designs to each class and also to families and residential communities to help more people learn about garbage sorting.

Each class also held meetings themed on garbage sorting, to give information about the types of recyclable garbage, kitchen waste, hazardous waste and other waste.

At the class meetings, students learned about garbage sorting through sketches and other means, as well as made their own garbage sorting boxes and used recycled materials to make handicrafts.

Established in 2015 in Guiyang's Yunyan district, the school has become a leading school in the district.

In recent years, Guiyang has been promoting domestic garbage sorting and accelerating the construction of a five-process sorting system.

Currently, about 260 schools and kindergartens in the district are taking part in the activity. Each school will organize environmental protection promotion teams formed by students, to pass on garbage sorting knowledge to residents.
