Economic, social development advances in Yunyan in 2021

In 2021, Yunyan district – located in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – reported a robust recovery of its economy, with economic aggregates and growth rates ranking at the forefront of the province and the city.

Preliminary estimates are that the annual GDP of the district will be 96 billion yuan ($15.06 billion), an increase of more than 8 percent. Its industrial added value will increase by 15 percent, fixed assets investments will grow by more than 18 percent and the per capita disposable income of residents will rise by 10 percent.

Economic development

Throughout the year, Yunyan added 150,000 square meters of standardized workshops and completed industrial investment of 2.5 billion yuan, surging 177 percent.

The district was home to 444 industrial entities, achieving a total annual industrial output value of 28.5 billion yuan, an increase of 16.8 percent. The added value of the high-tech manufacturing industry accounted for 15 percent of the total industrial added value.

Preliminary figures indicate that 3.6 million tourists stayed overnight throughout the year, while per capita tourism consumption will come in at 1,680 yuan.

Urban landscape upgrades

A total of 2,555 new parking spaces were added during the year and more parking lots at schools and stadiums were opened to the public.

Three demonstration communities for waste sorting were built to achieve full coverage of domestic waste sorting facilities in the district.

The district also added 70,000 sq m of urban green space, while the number of days with good urban air quality reached 98.9 percent.

Development vitality

Yunyan introduced nine new foreign-funded enterprises in 2021 and the district's actual use of foreign capital was $207 million.

During the year, the district held 15 major investment promotions activities, introducing 144 key industrial projects – among them two projects undertaken by Fortune Global 500 companies – with funds in place of 10.27 billion yuan.

A total of 7.17 billion yuan of taxes and fees were reduced and exempted and 1.69 billion yuan of credit loans were issued to small and micro enterprises and self-employed individuals.

Improving people's livelihoods 

A total of more than 2.2 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were issued, while no new local or imported cases were reported.

The district's urban registered unemployment rate was controlled within 4.15 percent in 2021, with 49,000 new jobs created.

During the year, the district newly built, renovated or expanded 14 primary and secondary schools and kindergartens, adding 5,670 study positions.
