Yunyan district boosts development over five years

The Yunyan district of Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has reportedly made significant achievements in terms of its core competitiveness and urban development over the course of the past five years.

The district's economy has reportedly continued to strengthen over the period. The gross domestic product of Yunyan reached 86.01 billion yuan ($13.43 billion) – 2.2 times the level 10 years ago – while per capita GDP exceeded $12,500. The industrial structure has reportedly been optimized in the five years and the urbanization rate of permanent residents has reached 100 percent.

Moreover, Yunyan was listed among the Top 100 Competitive Districts, the Top 100 Districts with Investment Potential and the Top 100 Districts for Green Development.

The comprehensive urban development is said to have given the city a new image. The transportation system has improved as major thoroughfares – such as Zhonghuan Road, the Yunyan section of Renmin Avenue and Shubo Avenue, as well as Metro Lines 1 and 2 – have gone into use. In addition, renovation has been carried out in a dozen old residential communities and 67 shanty areas, bringing tangible benefits to 58,976 households.

The continuously improving business environment has reportedly attracted a raft of new companies and businesses to settle there. The district was home to the operations of 19 Fortune Global 500 companies and it has maintained a leading position in the province in terms of the value of foreign trade.

What's more, a great of effort has gone into improving the air, water and soil quality, the living environment and solid waste treatment, creating a more livable environment for residents. The district now has 138 parks, after having added 100,000 square meters of new green land over the past five years. The rate of forest coverage has in the period increased from 35.58 percent to 37.02 percent. The rate of harmless disposal of garbage has increased to 100 percent.

Yunyan has also reportedly prioritized improving people's livelihoods. Total expenditure on 10 major livelihood projects was 32.72 billion yuan in the period, an increase of 164 percent on the 12th Five-year Plan (2016-20) period.

The per capita disposable income of urban residents now exceeds 40,000 yuan, which is 1.4 times that of five years ago. To top it off, the district was designated by the Ministry of Education as a national promotion and demonstration area for basic education achievements.
