Yunyan district of Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, received 457,500 tourist visits during the recent Dragon Boat Festival holiday, a year-on-year increase of 89.14 percent, according to local media reports.

During the three-day holiday from June 12 to 14, tourism revenue hit 346 million yuan ($54.05 million), a year-on-year increase of 190.57 percent.

Tourists from Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan and other surrounding areas were the main participants of short-term self-driving tours to Guizhou.

According to information from the district's travel agencies, tourism featuring sightseeing and leisure, cultural experiences, hot springs, healthcare and countryside tours proved popular among tourists.

Many tourists were also looking to enjoy the province's cool climate and escape the summer heat.

Activities such as zongzi-making were held for public to promote traditional Chinese culture. Zongzi, or glutinous rice dumplings, are often eaten as a snack during Dragon Boat Festival.

In addition, revolutionary tourism was also popular among tourists interested in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

To ensure safety during the holiday, the bureau arranged six teams to inspect hotels, travel agencies, scenic spots, sports halls and other venues every day to eliminate security risks.
