Shubo Avenue streets ahead in attracting top talent

By LIANG KAIYAN|China Daily|Updated: 2021-05-25

Like the status of Wall Street in New York as the financial heart of business in the United States, the Big Data Expo Avenue, also known as Shubo Avenue, is deemed as an engine for Guiyang's big data industry to stand out from its peers in the country.

With its planning and construction moving forward since 2018, the avenue is planned to span 62 kilometers. It runs through the city's core areas including Yunyan, Baiyun and Guanshanhu districts and the Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone.

Centered around the digital economy, the avenue is designed to be a route with various functions including big data industrial development and innovation as well as intelligent transportation, local officials said.

Incorporating Guiyang's areas with strong economic and industrial bases, the avenue is home to a group of digital industries such as big data, artificial intelligence, the internet of things and fintech.

Guizhou Jingshi Chengtou Wisdom Education Industry Company, founded in 2017, is a shining example of digital development along the avenue.

"With the development of the big data avenue, we have gained support from local authorities such as exemption from and reduction in taxes and rents," said Ban Chao, executive vice-president of the company.

"As Guiyang has made progress in developing into the big data valley of China, its strong supportive policies also promote the growth of big data businesses," Ban said. "That gives businesses an edge to seek cooperation more easily."

As one of the beneficiaries, Ban said his company has extended its business and found technological support from its peers for information technology system development and database management.

"This provides our company with a solid foundation for our future development," he said.

At the upcoming Big Data Expo, Ban's company will release a new intelligent tutoring product named Huhu.

Adopting new information technology, the system collects questions from students through its smart terminal to provide them with tailored-made lessons.

The product aims to maximize the sharing of qualified education resources and help to reduce education costs for the benefit of the entire society, the company said.

Guizhou CASICloud-tech Co, founded in 2015, is an intelligent manufacturing system solution provider located on the avenue.

"Different from the past impression of Guiyang as a remote area, the modern development and its unique climate are attracting talents to settle down in the city," said Wen Jie, deputy general manager of the company. "The development of IT application in the city also helps to overcome transportation limitations and make it more convenient."

Focused on serving the integration of big data and the real economy in Guizhou, the company said it has helped local businesses realize digital and intelligent transformation based on the province's industrial internet platform.

It operates the Guizhou Ind Cloud platform, a pilot project of Guizhou's big data industry.

The platform mobilizes Guizhou's government affairs management and service for the industrial control system, Wen said. It also conducts analysis on the industrial data to monitor the industrial economy and thus contributes to industrial policy decisions.

Based on cloud manufacturing, the platform provides businesses with intelligent solutions and helps to promote the upgrading and transformation of the traditional manufacturing industry, Wen said.
