Yunyan district of Guiyang -- the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- received 1.23 million tourist visits during the recent May Day holiday, a year-on-year increase of 54 percent, according to information released by the district's culture, sports, radio, television, and tourism bureau.

Tourism revenue during the holiday hit 851 million yuan ($131.73 million), a year-on-year increase of 88.24 percent.

Yunyan launched four tourism routes themed on revolutionary culture, ancient town, culture, and shopping during the holiday. It also promoted tourism packages and products via online media platforms. In addition, cultural and art performances were staged in Wenchang Pavilion sub-district, Shuidong Road sub-district and Yuxiu Road sub-district.

To ensure safety during the holiday, the bureau arranged for teams to inspect hotels, travel agencies, scenic spots, cultural enterprises and other venues every day, in order to eliminate security risks.

In addition, to ensure the smooth running of the various culture and tourism markets in Yunyan, the district's culture, sports, radio, television, and tourism bureau inspected and supervised them during the break.

The bureau also distributed more than 1,000 leaflets about tourist rights and consumer protection to visitors.
