Yunyan inspects imported cold-chain products for food safety

The market supervision and administration bureau of Yunyan district in Guiyang  – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – recently ran tests on samples taken from cold-chain imports, screening frozen shrimp from three Ecuadorian companies, to eliminate epidemic and food safety risks.

Earlier in the month, China blocked imports of shrimp from three producers in Ecuador after customs discovered novel coronavirus in shipments. 

The bureau officials in Yunyan ramped up inspections of imported frozen shrimps produced by the Ecuadorian companies of Industrial Pesquera Santa Priscila S.A, Empacreci S.A and Empacadora Del Pacifico Sociedad Anonima Edpacif S.A.

The inspections were carried out by 230 officials in the Dawa and Jinguan cold chain markets, 114 food stores and 15 farmers markets, as well as 29 large supermarket chains like Wal-Mart, Dili Fresh and Freshhema. 

So far, no Ecuadorian frozen shrimps were found in those stores and markets, and no imported frozen products tested for the novel coronavirus.

Moving forwards, officials said Yunyan will continue to keep a close check on imported frozen food and maintain regular epidemic prevention and control measures to safeguard people's food safety.
