Wenchang Pavilion

Wenchang Pavilion is located in the east part of Guiyang city, Southwest China's Guizhou province. As a Chinese national key cultural relic protection unit, it is a symbolic building and an important memory of the Guiyang people as are the old city wall and the old city gate. Visiting the pavilion makes people feel like they have gone back a hundred years.

Wenchang Pavilion was built in 1609, the 37th year of the reign of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and was originally used to worship the Emperor Wenchang. It was rebuilt in 1669, the 8th year of the reign of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), and was repaired and expanded during the reigns of Yongzheng, Qianlong, Jiaqing and Daoguang. The pavilion is the only three-story, three eaved, and nine angled roof pavilion in China.
